From Prototype to Product: Coding Buyer Experience
Overview of the Business
BuyerExperience helps sales teams for SAAS companies turn closed-lost deals into a repeatable revenue channel without scaling headcount. With over 70% of deals going to closed-lost, most buyers choose the status quo or remain dissatisfied with competitors, leaving untapped opportunities.
BuyerExperience automates feedback collection directly from buyers, aggregates insights for competitive intel, and identifies which lost deals can be won back. It guides sales teams on when and how to re-engage with personalized communication.
Base Labs was contracted by Brian Hamor the founder and CEO of Buyer Experience to build the entire platform from a Figma prototype, a tech roadmap, and years of experiences as Head of Sales for Startups.
The Challenge
When BuyerExperience approached us, they had a clear product vision and a detailed tech roadmap. Their frontend was fully prototyped in Figma, but they needed a partner to build out the entire platform, including both frontend and backend development. The primary challenges included:
Frontend & Backend Development: Buyer Experience needed a reliable, scalable solution to bring their Figma designs to life and handle the large volumes of feedback and data centralization their product required.
AI Model Refactoring:
Their original LLM model required users to wait until the end of an interaction before receiving feedback. This approach limited engagement and reduced the analytic's effectiveness.
Base Labs suggested refactoring the model to provide real-time, dynamic responses that would create a smoother, more interactive experience for users.
Categorization is usually done with predefined themes, but Base Labs managed to find a flexible prompt to create dynamic categories based on open text responses.
The Solution
We provided a balanced team comprising one senior developer and specialized junior developers focused on both frontend and backend development. This approach ensured efficient development without compromising on quality.
Cost-Effective Team Structure: By assigning one senior developer to oversee the project and leveraging junior developers for specific tasks, we were able to keep development costs under control without sacrificing speed or quality.
Active Feedback Loop: Base Labs worked on implementing live user feedback, and comments from BuyerExperience ensuring smooth user interactions and rapid iteration based on feedback.
Real-Time AI Optimization: We tested and integrated Anthropic and OpenAI models. Our CTO, Emi Hernandez, led the AI refactoring, while junior devs supported implementation and testing.
Backoffice design and development: We used Appsmith to automate and help BuyerExperience manage all ongoing surveys, create new clients and push results to the frontend.
Results
Achieved a 32% to 39% response rate with surveys and methodology designed by Hamor.
Refactored AI model to classify and summarize survey results without predefined themes, allowing for flexibility in response categorization.
Designed and developed new screens based on user feedback in collaboration with Hamor.
Created a more efficient backoffice for BuyerExperience admins by creating it in Appsmith, a low code platform at a fraction of the time and cost that making it custom.
Tech Stack and Architecture
We built the web app was built on the React Framework.
We coded in TypeScript, since typed languages improve client hand offs and long term maintainability.
One cool thing we managed to try for this project was AG Grid.
We tested both Anthropic and OpenAI before deciding on which AI model to use and recommend.
The infrastructure is built on Google Cloud.
The frontend of the backoffice is built on Appsmith.
“I’m happy I chose Base Labs. I evaluated over a dozen development firms but most of them just wanted to get paid and build as fast as possible. The Base Labs team took a thoughtful approach to diagnose exactly what I was building, map it out in Figma, and put an entire roadmap together based on the plan. Very happy and fortunate to work with them”
